Overview

The infrastructure behind reliable device performance.

Interconnect and signal integrity work runs through nearly every ATL Medical market: electrosurgical cable systems, EP mapping and diagnostic infrastructure, and any device that needs custom connector work. Because ATL builds the wire and cable itself, it can engineer construction choices around the specific problems that degrade signal fidelity in a space-constrained device.

What we do

What this capability covers.

Crosstalk & interference

Crosstalk and coupling, electromagnetic interference, and noise transmission or reception.

Signal loss & reflection

Signal attenuation, return loss, reflections, and impedance mismatch.

Construction-driven loss

Loss associated with conductors, shielding, junctions, pitch, and lay direction.

Custom wire & cable, built in-house

Single- and multi-conductor, twisted-pair, coaxial, hybrid, and fine-wire constructions, plus cable and connector overmolding.

Capability in action · Electrophysiology

Increasing channel density without increasing the connector footprint.

The challenge. A next-generation EP mapping platform needed a high contact count within a constrained connector package.

What ATL Medical did. ATL developed the cable-and-connector architecture around precision termination, reliable mating, backward compatibility, and flexibility for future platform configurations.

ATL Medical technology · UHD connector

218 contacts in one circular connector.

The challenge. Mapping and diagnostic systems keep adding channels, but the connector still has to fit the handle or panel, and every added contact puts signal integrity at risk.

The ATL Medical solution. The patented Ultra High-Density (UHD) connector carries 218 contacts in a circular design that balances normal forces in support of signal integrity, with contact wipe designed for a reliable connection on every mating cycle. It is designed for a MuMetal ring, and validation was completed in November 2022.

Common questions

Technical depth.

Twisted-pair configurations; coaxial and micro-coax construction; spiral, braid, foil, copper, and plated-copper shielding; shield management at connector terminations; pitch and lay-direction selection; connector and cable impedance considerations; and fine-wire and coax-ribbon termination.

ATL develops and manufactures custom wire, cable, and tubing constructions in-house—single-wire and multiconductor cable; round and flat cable; twisted pair; coaxial and hybrid construction; and miniature or fine-wire constructions, including high-temperature, high-voltage, and signal-integrity-specific builds. We also handle cable and connector overmolding in-house.

Evaluation may include network analysis and time-domain methods, return-loss evaluation, impedance, time delay, rise time, and eye-pattern evaluation—the specific test scope depends on the application and what's been agreed with the customer.

Electrosurgical and Electrophysiology lean on this capability heavily — cable systems and mapping infrastructure are core to both.

ATL Medical's high-density connector work includes designs with 128+ contacts, and its own patented Ultra High-Density (UHD) connector carries 218 contacts.

40–46 AWG magnet-wire termination and 44 AWG coax-ribbon bulk stripping for termination. It is the same fine-wire capability behind the 44 AWG micro-coax in ATL Medical's PREVOYANCE® camera system.
